Brain Dump
In the Headlines, Kudzu & Muscadines September 25th, 2007It may seem like I occasionally fall off the face of the earth but the truth is that the blogging still continues in my head even when I don’t have time to get it out of there. So, I was thinking last night that I should just dump all the little tidbits out and then maybe I can resume blogging without the constant buzzing of all these other ideas…

The City of Seattle has passed a law that re-classifies miniature goats as small animals rather than farm animals. They can now be licensed as pets just like dogs, cats, exotic animals and potbellied pigs. This may actually mean we will one day have our yard under control. It would be pretty cool to have a lawnmower with no emissions and that could make milk and cheese. (I should note that I have owned pygmy goats before.) It’s just a shame that I don’t have a sister’s car to steal, umm, I mean borrow.

Most of you all know that I love food. I don’t discriminate and will try damn near anything but of course I have a soft spot for southern/cajun cuisine. As an artist and cook I also appreciate a nicely done presentation. While I was conferencing downtown last week, I finally got to try out Sazerac and boy was I far from disappointed. For lunch on day one: Open Faced Grilled Skirt Steak Sandwich, Topped with Grilled Onions & Blue Cheese. Served with Frites and Naughty Nellie Pike’s Ale. INCREDIBLE! I was so impressed that I went back again for the second day’s lunch. The cook must have recognized me because he sent out a complimentary starter to try- a great way to win bonus points from me! I decided to go for a taste of the Crawfish, Duck & Andouille Sausage Gumbo and a Shrimp cake. I wasn’t as starving as Day 1, so I managed to get a photo. The shrimp cake was served on a piece of marble. It was gorgeous and… damn, my stomach is growling now, so moving on…

Shout out to Hattiesburg, MS for getting called out on Monday Night Football last week. Oh yes, good ole H-burg… where I spent a year pretending to be a college student. I got to experience all the parties and non of the tuition or pesky campus parking tickets. I haven’t been back post Katrina but I know it’s not the same place that I remember from before. H-burg is also the town that (indirectly) brought you Brett Favre and Afroman.

Local artists say goodbye to a unique piece of Seattle history. The Bridge Motel in Fremont was demolished for condos but not without a tribute to the character of the place.
D.K. Pan is an artist who became manager a year ago partly because he wanted to make a film about the motel, envisioning the structure as a woman. When he learned it was not long for this world, he asked if artists could take over before wrecking balls took it down.
Saturday night from 5 to midnight, the office, the 12 rooms and part of the parking lot will be transformed into what more than 20 artists and/or artist teams think of the spirit of the place. The installations and performances will be temporary art for a temporary location.

There are no homosexuals in Iran? Oh really, some of us still remember these guys.

That last link hurts me so much I have to move immediately on to something brain numbing- TV!! It’s finally coming back, after a long summer of nothing but the Closer and an occasional new Daily Show-Get off your ass, Stewart! So anyways, this week we have CSI: Miami, Private Practice, House, Grey’s Anatomy…what else am I missing? Something, I’m sure but those are the ones I’ve wanted to see the most. I watched K-Ville for the first time and was glad to know that a show, as horrifically named as Katrina-ville, was actually done pretty well. I have to admit it made me homesick to see the quarter and the performers in Jackson Square. We’ll just pretend the Saints game didn’t happen tho… Way to Go Hawks!

Upcoming Musical Excitement:
Feist @ the Paramount (Nov. 5) ROW 5, go baby!
Shelby Lynne @ the Triple Door (Nov. 7) Love, love LOVE that venue!
I also wouldn’t mind seeing Brandi Carlile again and then Tori Amos is coming in December.

I got summoned to Jury Duty… which is a first. Lach says I’m not allowed, as a free citizen of a democratic society, to be pissed off that I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to go to freaking KENT*… but I’m still pissed.
* (20 miles of road that will prob take 2 hours)

We had a late birthday celebration for Uppity over the weekend at Ephesus, our local mediterranean favorite. The Artezin Zin was great and so was the food and the company. I stopped by heaven (also known as Bakery Nouveau) earlier that day and picked up a large Chocolate, Raspberry Mousse cake. Everything was lovely… until I had a nosebleed, locked myself into the men’s room (the ladies had a fucking line, of course) and had the majority of the restaurant wondering WTF was going on.

A Perfect Anomaly turned three years old this week! I can’t believe I’ve stuck around for that long. Go me.

Congrats on your three years! Doesn’t it feel like a long time?

Thanks Irk- Yes, it does! I’m pretty amazed that despite the many times of nearly hanging it up, I’m still here. I guess I’m officially addicted now, eh?

Goats and Seattle, so Syd can now visit and bring the critters.

I like your post; been thinking of doing something similar, as I haven’t had it in me to post much for a couple weeks. But I’ve started an agressive course of Fukitol so I should be back in top form soon…
Minigoats as pets, huh? I just hope they are easy to potty train…
Re: Iranian gays, they obviously have no human rights there, either.
Do you guys watch Heroes? That’s El Fixer’s and my latest addiction. It’s made for people with attention spans of about 2 seconds!
Thanks for the cake - it’s long gone now. Or to clarify: it is no longer cake, but rather currently being transformed by my metabolism into cellulite. But that’s OK - winter is coming.
Happy Birthday, APA!

Yay! For your 3 years.
I haven’t forgotten that you gave me a me a nice jumpstart in my first year of blogging. Still indebted.
AND, thank God we weren’t living in Hattiesburg at the same time. I tore that town UP for 4 yrs.

Guy- Don’t give her any ideas, you know how many critters she’s got!
hehe
Uppity- I highly recommend a brain dump. I know I felt much better to do it. I have never seen Heroes but it looks like an interesting premise. I’m so glad that you liked the cake! It’s my favorite dessert on this side of the Sound and much better when shared!
Syd- Awww, I’m glad that I discovered you so early in your blogdom.
When were you in H-Burg? I was in Wiggins (@ Perk) from Jan-June ‘00 and then lived in H-Burg from June-Dec of ‘02.

Well, hello!
Loved the goat comments… hee hee…
Um, and when exactly were you an H-burg resident? Miss A spent some time there several years ago. You guys might actually know each other.

Hey Sharon, I haven’t seen you around in a while! We must have been adding our comments above at the same time.
As I briefly said up there, I went to Perk (Wiggins) from Jan-June ‘00 after NWCC said I could no longer become educated there. I spent every weekend with friends in the ‘Burg at that time. Then I lived there from June-Dec of ‘02. I drove a pimpin’ black explorer (with tinted windows and an awesome sound system) and I waited tables at O’Charley’s. I can’t seem to remember the name of the gay bar we used to go to but I also hung out at the Hippo a lot.
