Absence
About Bayou, Domestic Bliss October 23rd, 2006Does absence really make the heart grow fonder? I hope so, because you all must reeeally love me by now. As I said in my last post, I’ve had to take some time off from writing to really reflect on my experiences in South Dakota and I know, at least a few of you wish that I would hurry up with all this reflection business.
I assure you that I have had a lot going on these last few weeks that have kept my mind quite occupied, so here’s a little recap:
• We are completely redesigning our guest room and finally finished all the painting over the weekend. Thank jebus, the ceiling is no longer blue… really, WTF was that about?
• The fur-children are really excited about “their new room” to chase each other around in. Gypsy has also started venturing outside again, now that her attacker is gone. It’s nice to see her sun-bathing in the front yard, but it’s not so nice to hear her shrill and beg to go out when we are getting ready in the morning. (She only gets to go out when we are going to be at home.)
• My uncle and his wife are in Hong Kong for two weeks while navigating the paperwork for the adoption of a baby girl from China. It’s exciting that I will have a new cousin but I can’t help but be scared to death for the prejudices and cultural confusion that this child will probably face. On the other hand, she is a lucky minority by not being a victim of China’s one-child policy, that has indirectly murdered millions of babies, predominantly girls.
• Work has been a mad-house of production overload… I gotta get an assistant. I really started my morning off great by getting into an email back and forth while I trying to toast a blueberry bagel. Ah, the burnt office smell so characteristically says, “Welcome to Monday”.
• I had to help a certain Uppity Rib in an important purchase of a scanner so that she could post pictures (like this one) of herself for us to laugh at. Bwahahahahahaha!
• I am so far behind on my favorite blog reading and have a growing stack of books in the “to be read” pile as well… so many emails to respond to and calls to return. There are just not enough hours in the day for all of the projects that I try to undertake… there I go being a gemini again.
• Speaking of projects, I have a pretty huge one coming up. I will have some of my photos from the Rez featured in a local Artwalk on November 11th. This means that I have alot of work to do, and limited time to do it. It might be a little while before I’m back in the swing of writing but hopefully you all will still be here when I get back around.
• Last minute addition: I felt like cinematic travel last night so I watched “Under the Tuscan Sun”. Perhaps I’m the last person on earth to realize this but I freaked out anyways - Sandra Oh and Kate Walsh (Addison) as lesbian lovers… now if that storyline could write it’s way into Grey’s Anatomy, imagine the possibilities…

Welcome back. You were missed. As Emenemenespha said, “To go is to return.”

I was the second to last person, then. I rented that movie specifically to see that. Hawt!

I’m RELIEVED when other people write “I haven’t been around because…” posts. It makes me feel better about my own occasional absense. There is probably a really fine line between “doing enough interesting stuff to be blog worthy” and “doing so much that there’s no time to blog.” Being busy and interesting is part of why we like you!

Big hugs to each of you! Any time that I have to switch creative gears, I worry that I’m neglecting my readers. I’m always very grateful to know that everyone always seems to understand.

Heh! Bayou, you’re funny!
Congrats to your uncle and aunt. I believe your cousin’s situation will be better here, no matter what prejudices and cultural confusion she’ll have to face, as long as she is loved.
